I think you should always feel free to make lyrics work the way you need them to. ❤️

The wrong lyrics really spoke to me in the right moment!

Usually what we hear in the lyrics and the way we feel about them is more meaningful than what the artist attempted to say. I like your version better too. We all need people in our corner to get us through! Cheering for you all!

I have one of those "herb" dryers! Since I don't smoke "herb" anymore (but do listen to Peaches and Herb), I stopped using it (and growing it) as all my partaker friends grow it too. But I know that's not the herbs you meant. At least, I don't think so. My wife would also say that her family is a bunch of complainers. And since we have no kids, that really means one person. Unless she means our dog, Bernie.

And, more seriously, I continue to send warmth, prayers, healing energy, whatever helps, to you and Bryan and the family for your journeys and your openness to share these challenges with us. And lyrics are just placeholders -- we are supposed to adapt them to fit our needs.

I don’t know how to grow that kind of herb, but I do like partaking!

Well they call it “weed” for a reason. It’s much easier to grow than most vegetables. Though folks like to get all fancy and hydroponic about it. I loved the harvesting and trimming process. Very meditative.

And now I'm crying. Holding all of this with you and Bryan.

Great purchases! Appreciate the reluctance yet wow. Positive upgrades is what Bill and I call seemingly small household additions that just make things less complain-y.

I love “positive upgrades!” It’s so ridiculous how long I wait to solve a problem. I once got so excited about buying a $7 over-the-door towel holder that I posted about it to Instagram!

"I was crying because the song rang of hope in a dented and rusty universe. It punched entropy in the throat. It was a porch light at the end of a dark road."

Awesome; thank you!

I saw this headline in the NYTimes the other day -- "Mammals’ Time on Earth Is Half Over, Scientists Predict", with this description -- "A new model suggests that in 250 million years, all land will collide into a supercontinent that boosts warming and pushes mammals to extinction."

You know what? The universe may indeed be no better than a neglected '57 Chevy, but I am not putting that on my list of things to worry about. Porch light staying on!

Also -- Herb Dryer sounds like an apt name for a character a James Thurber short story!

I love the top two things you purchased. I need those! And, I too am crying and sending my best to you and Bryan as you sing the lyrics you need to fit your situation.

Music really can save your life, and I'm happy this song-and record- came along at the exact time it was supposed to (and thank you for the mention!).

As for the lyrics? We can hear what we want and take away what we need from them--especially in a case like yours & Brian's--accuracy be damned.

P.S. I need one of those wash tubs!

It was definitely a whole vibe I needed at that time!

This post moves me. I coincidentally am posting tomorrow about the lyrics to a Norah Jones' song that I've construed to fit my post. Check it out. We must be on the same wavelength. It's okay to move in different directions, change the scenery, excavate the gems from the music we resonate with. Isn't that at the end of the day what an artist does?

And thank you ever so kindly for changing the lyrics for your purposes. I felt your pain when I read this post. I see this story as the universe just reminding you that your purpose, your voice, your encouragement, your strength, your help is what Bryan needs to fight this battle.

Change those words and double down. We're all here with you in spirit. Sending love to Bryan, wishing you calmer days. 💜

I’m in your corner. This is a gorgeous essay with humor at just the right spots. “This season I did something about it: I bought stuff. I realize this is something normal people do — they find, borrow, or buy stuff to solve a problem. But not me! I complain! I suffer complaints!” Felt so seen. This is the way things are and we shall suffer through it!I also wish I could have floor tea with you right now. I love the Mountain Goats. We are seeing then Monday night. I will be seeing for you. Andrea Gibson’s interview on We Can Do Hard Things this week was super hopeful and inspiring. Xxoo
