back when i was working in a coat outlet in rural New Hampshire (around 1987), i sold a coat to this scruffy blonde guy who was purchasing it for his deaf girlfriend
he hands me his Mastercard and the name says 'William Hurt"
as soon as they leave, i call my best friend who has a friend who actually KNOWS William Hurt
"Joyce, what does William Hurt look like? and does he drive a beat up Saab? He was just in here with some deaf girl buying her a coat!"
yes, that WAS William Hurt and the "deaf girl" was Marlee Matlin
at least i didn't embarrass myself by asking for an autograph or anything
I once met Bill Gates when he flew into PDX on a turboprop. I escorted him through our employee area, to a hallway that ended with a door opening out to the arrivals level road. His limo was there waiting for him. He was very unassuming, and we made some small talk that probably set a new world record for banality.
When I was a bartender back in the day, Tim Tebow walked in while I was working with a few of his fellow teammates. They sat at a table that was too small for their massive bulk, but that’s the table they chose.
I casually walked over and asked, “Hey. Are you Tim Tebow?”
“Yup,” he said as if this was the 30th time he was asked this question today.
“Amazing,” I replied disinterested. “Do you want my autograph?”
I remember when you all went to do that! How awesome! If I could meet anyone famous LeVar Burton would 100% be on my list. He bridged the gap between my love of reading and TNG. I'm sure he hears it all the time but his show Reading Rainbow really helped me not feel like such a weirdo for loving reading so much. And his character Geordi La Forge also cemented my love of science fiction. I actually really enjoy his pod cast "LeVar Burton Reads" where he reads a science fiction short story every episode. Highly recommend if you are into that sort of thing :)
Had dinner & cigars with Jerry Springier and my cousin back when Jerry was an eye roll and a household name.
Afterward, we toured his high-rise apartment. I told him it seemed sad. He said my observations were “stunningly accurate.” I suggested he get a cat.

The only "celebs" I've ever met are NPR famous, so not sure if that counts!
