Your cover letter was the best one I have read in over a decade! I absolutely would have granted you an interview. With regards to the auto response, please don’t be offended as recruiters have been raked through the coals and we’re just trying to survive. It would be too much to personally respond to every candidate we talked with even if they were the bomb. Sad, I know. We are all understaffed and running fast and furious. I’m sure they tucked your information into their database for future consideration!! Can’t wait for more Jen Zug newsletters!!!

Wow, Silke! Thank you! I totally get it regarding the auto response. I guess I wanted to be a special snowflake for a moment. :)

Best cover letter ever! You didn't get the interview, but you did land this new subscriber. A crappy consolation prize, I know, but I'm witty and promise to read your newsletter and comment. :)

Keep doing this. I am part of a freelancing group and there are a couple of truths of jobs posted by clients. The main one is that the client very often don't know what they want. They think they know, but they don't. Sometimes they post jobs with too broad a scope. Other times they post jobs with unrealistic expectations. But it doesn't hurt to go to the plate and take a swing at it. I like that you took a swing, and the humor in which you did it.

Thank you! And yes, after having been in a couple dysfunctional job situations, this time around I've been much more intentional about interviewing the employer as much (or more!) as they interview me.
