Cancer Treatment Update #2
Hair loss, cold sensitivities, and a high school graduation
Hey there! If you’re new here, this is a cancer update for my husband, Bryan — not my usual Wednesday newsletter. For the backstory, you can see previous updates HERE. If you’re here for the non-cancer content, I’ll be back on Wednesday with The Usual.
Bryan had his second round of chemotherapy on Monday, June 5th, which also happened to be his first day back to work after recovering from surgery to have ten inches of his colon removed.
This time around the drug side effects were more pronounced, especially the nausea. The hair loss also started, though minimally. And he couldn’t grab cold things out of the fridge or drink iced coffee, which was a bummer because Seattle was in Fake Summer mode that week. I drank rosé with an ice cube in it so he could have it at room temperature.
We all have to make sacrifices — I’m just doing my part. Hold your applause, please.
We’ve been recording short videos on our way to treatment — here’s our chat from June 5th:1
On Thursday of that week, our son Thomas graduated from high school! I was worried Bryan would feel too sick to enjoy the festivities, but those anti-nausea meds work.
Feeling grateful for these moments, and so proud of Thomas. He’ll be staying close to home next year, attending the University of Washington and staying in the dorms.
Thank you all for your continued prayers, well-wishes, and good vibes.
Cheers.
Jen
I forgot to upload the video from our drive to his first treatment on May 22nd. If you want to go back and watch that one, I added it to the first treatment update.
I love getting to know you guys, both with your posts and now this video. I love your attitude, your holding tight to staying light, even in the midst of major stress. I wish you lived closer to me so I could bring you soup. Yes, soup, chicken soup, the cure all for everything. Since I can't manage that, I will be lighting my candles sending positive thoughts your way. 💓
I'll drink rosé with ice cubes in solidarity!
