“I held on to her as long as I could, but the morning gently pushed its way into my consciousness, like the rising sun pushes through the trees in the graveyard across the street from my morning window.” So beautiful. Thanks for all of this. ✨ Checking my calendar for Anne Lamott....

I am pretty sure the seasons wheel is meant to be like a physical wheel that you turn to the right, held fast to a backing with one of those butterfly flange paper clip things. Then the counterclockwise makes sense. But as they say, if you have to explain… perhaps a drop shadow around the circle would have helped. And an animation of it turning. And the seasons turn song from the 60s.

Great post!

You have some “extra parents” who need some gardening lessons:)

Thinking of you all today. Keep going.

I love reading your thoughts. And memories of Marge are a bonus. My heart aches at the loss of our moms. Thinking of you and Bryan these days.

I love how much you remember from your dreams. Not just the details of the dream themselves but the context and time in your life they occurred!

Such a powerful piece. It’s summoning lots of emotions, as I’m currently dealing with two family members with dementia. It’s making me think more of my younger sister who died in 2018 and how I didn’t dream about her until 3 years after her death.

And finally, vegetable gardening has been a refuge for me for the past 28 years. Seeing your garden photos was a reminder of how much I adore spring and getting down in the dirt.

Dementia is brutal. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Both my grandmothers were cut down by it, and now my mom is in that "it's-still-early-but-its-definitely-happening" stage of it.

Gardening (and by "gardening," I really mean "attempting to grow veggies") up here can be sketchy. I love to do it, but Mother Nature often has different ideas on how things'll turn out. I'm sure there's a life lesson in there somewhere.

Anne Lamott?! Well, that's something awesome I can't wait to hear about!

I loved your description of your mom's Sunday morning look--that sounds like my mom's too! My favorite memory about my mom isn't one specific, but I love her hugs. I get a little weepy every time I think of one. It's the only time we ever feel in sync and okay with each other.
